“You are more beautiful than you think” – That mantra is what’s at the core of Dove’s campaign for real beauty. It’s true what they say that your worst enemy is yourself since more and more women nowadays are becoming too overly critical of how they look on the outside.
It may have something to do with how women are portrayed in the media—and with all that photoshop as well—that the normal woman is feeling more insecure and inadequate than ever before because they don’t have what those women on billboards have. Dove decided to conduct a social experiment between the difference of how women see themselves and how other people see them. It’s quite touching once the women saw the end results and realize how they’ve been seeing themselves in such a negative and self-deprecating light.
Such may be the culture today but it’s a good thing that once in a while, certain reminders and wake-up calls such as Dove’s campaign are bringing to light the simple fact that you are beautiful and you are enough. Women shouldn’t really be all too judgmental of themselves and instead learn to see the more positive aspects of how they look on the outside as well as on the inside. Love and cherish yourself and it will shine right through you.
